Stark Varg Motor

The Stark Varg motor is a 360V (or up to 420V depending on specs) liquid-cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). It weighs only 9 kg (19.8 lbs) and revs up to 14,200 rpm. It outputs a massive 60 hp in standard trim or up to 80 hp on Alpha models, delivering up to 938 Nm of torque to the rear wheel. You will find the motor together with the inverter and reduction gearbox in the powertrain unit.

The motor is a Surface Permanent Mack AC motor, hand-wound in a distributed pattern. It is water cooled and uses the same coolant solution as the Inverter. The motor uses a cooling jacket where the unit is embedded in a 7075 aluminum casing. It is built into the motor case structure which is part of the frame and also holds the gearbox.

Key Stark Varg Electric Motor Components

Here are the specific internal and direct structural components that make up the Stark Varg electric motor.
  • Stator: The stationary outer ring featuring hand-wound distributed copper coils that generate the magnetic field.
  • Rotor: The internal rotating assembly fitted with high-grade permanent magnets.
  • Carbon Fiber Sleeve: A high-strength wrap around the rotor to prevent magnet expansion at high RPMs.
  • 7075-T6 Aluminum Casing: The structural outer shell that holds the motor together and bolts directly to the frame.
  • Integrated Liquid Cooling Jacket: Channels built into the casing that circulate coolant directly around the stator.
  • Rotor Shaft: The central steel spindle that spins with the rotor to transmit mechanical torque.
  • Internal Bearings: High-speed precision bearings that support the rotor shaft at both ends of the casing.
  • Encoder / Position Sensor: A high-resolution sensor at the rear of the shaft that tracks exact rotor angle for the inverter.
  • Phase Cables & Terminals: Heavy-duty, insulated connectors that feed three-phase AC power from the inverter into the stator.

Tip: If you want to replace the motor of your stark varg bike by yourself, please buy the stark varg powertrain unit. It is a complete assembly of the motor, inverter and reduction gear box. So even with little or no expertise, you will avoid mistakes.

Key Powertrain Components

  • Inverter (Gen 1 or Gen 2): Converts direct current (DC) from the battery into alternating current (AC) for the motor using high-efficiency IGBT modules.
  • Electric Motor: A liquid-cooled, water-jacketed high-performance permanent magnet motor producing up to 80 hp.
  • Motor Case & Covers: Left and right external aluminum/magnesium casings sealing the internal electronics and gear reduction.
  • Primary Gear / Reduction Gearbox: Translates high motor revolutions into usable countershaft torque via a fixed primary reduction ratio.
  • Countershaft & Sprocket: The final output shaft exiting the powertrain unit, holding the front sprocket and countershaft seal/O-ring assembly.
  • Vehicle Control Unit (VCU): Manages throttle inputs, power mapping, thermal regulation, and safety protocols alongside the wiring harness.
  • Cooling Circuit: Integrated water pump, routing hoses, and breathers/valves keeping the inverter and motor operating at safe temperatures.
